A case-based primer on application of recently updated guidelines in cardiology to patient care balanced with patient-centered approaches and inclusion of naturopathic principles and treatments. Also included: discussion of modern anticoagulant therapies and care of patients post-coronary intervention and stent placement.

- Select appropriate lifestyle, dietary, and pharmaceutical treatment of all stages of hypertension in adults according to 2013 guideline updates.
- Consider and select appropriate approaches to lipid disorders based on a balance between: 2013 ACC/AHA updated guidelines, 2014 NLA recommendations for patient-centered treatment, and naturopathic approaches.
- Evaluate the evidence for antithrombotic therapies in common conditions including atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombus, and pulmonary embolism including an emphasis on oral factor Xa inhibitors (rivaroxaban and apixaban).
- Differentiate between types of coronary interventions; evaluate evidence for standard of care therapies in primary and secondary prevention of coronary heart disease; apply these principles to the care of patients whom have had a coronary intervention with stent placement.
